SOLDIER’S HEART

a Canadian Drama by David French
presented by Borelians Community Theatre
at Town Hall 1873 Centre for the Performing Arts
October 11-20, 2018

Directed by Kyle Dickie

Sixteen-year-old Jacob Mercer stands on a railway platform in Bay Roberts, Newfoundland, 1924. Jacob has had a violent fight with his father, Esau, and has decided to take the next train out of town. Six years earlier, Esau Mercer returned from the Great War a damaged man, never able to speak of his time in the trenches. When Esau arrives at the station in an attempt to stop Jacob from leaving, the boy seizes the opportunity to help his father heal. Jacob agrees to stay – if his father will speak about the War. Neither of them are prepared for what happens when Esau finally gives his devastating and unsparing account of what happened on the day that the Newfoundland Regiment was wiped out. This quintessential Canadian Post-war drama comes from one of Canada’s most celebrated playwrights.

Soldier’s Heart is presented as part of the Armistice 100 celebrations in Scugog Township, marking 100 years since the end of World War One and in remembrance of the millions of lives that were lost in the hope of finding peace.

IN MEMORY OF ED DAIGLE

It is with heavy hearts that the Borelians mourn the passing of one of the founding members of our theatre company, Ed Daigle.
Ed was deeply loved and respected by many in the community. He directed, acted in, and produced countless plays, not just with the Borelians, but with all the community theatres in the area. His incomparable passion for theatre and generous spirit inspired so many of us to go on stage, find our light, and entertain.
The Borelians would like to express their sincere condolences to Ed’s wife Catherine, his children, grandchildren, and extended family, as well as to his many, many friends and loved ones.
There will be a visitation for Ed at the Prince Albert United Church today at 12:00pm, followed by a memorial service beginning at 1:00pm and a reception.
