The year is 1939. The place is a big, old house in New York City. The Sycamores, a charmingly unique group of family and friends, has happily made its way through the Great Depression. But the long arm of the law is reaching out….
Borelians Community Theatre is proud to present the play that started it all off for them in 1971. “You Can’t Take It With You” is the perfect way for audiences to show their support for their community. Join us for an evening of comedy and introspection as this award-winning play is presented as an onstage reading by some of the finest actors in Durham Region.
What is the Live Reading Series?
Every couple of months we will assemble a group of performers from the Durham Region area and select a great play for them to collaborate on. They will have minimal-to-no sets, costumes or props to work with; they will have to rely on each other and the stage. They will be given one rehearsal together prior to presenting (with scripts) in front of an audience. This is spontaneous, living theatre and we hope it will become a way for performers in the community to reconnect with each other while sharpening their skills and exploring their craft.

What would live performance be without a live audience?! Reconnect with your local theatre and join us for an evening of scaled-down, gentle entertainment. Ticket are only $10 each, and the full ticket amount will go directly to the theatre as a donation to the “Reshaping the Future” revitalization project. Tickets can be purchased online, over the phone, or in person at the Town Hall Theatre box office.

A Fundraiser for Our Home Theatre
This specially priced series is an ongoing fundraiser in support of the “Reshaping the Future” renovation and revitalization project, which, among other things, will restore the historic bell tower and increase accessibility to Town Hall Theatre. For 50 years, Borelians Community Theatre has called the stage at Town Hall 1873 their home, and now, after more than two years of closures, the theatre needs a community of support to re-open. This is a perfect way to show your support.
Even if you can’t make it to performance night, consider purchasing a ticket at the back of the theatre as a way of donating to your local theatre.
